In 2012, The Dark Knight Rises attempted to live up to one of the greatest sequels ever made and the greatest action film of the 2000s — The Dark Knight. To do it, director Christopher Nolan needed a villain who could one-up the Joker. So he picked Bane, the hulking beast who breaks Batman's back in the comics. Tom Hardy was cast in the role and he brought with him a unique choice of speech. Now, a decade after the film's release, it's Hardy's portrayal that's most memorable — and it's because of that lovely, lovely voice.
